If you are preparing to attend your bankruptcy court hearing you may be feeling a bit overwhelmed. Chances are your lawyer may have given you some idea of what will occur in the courtroom during your hearing but you are still unsure of what you will be doing in particular. Below we have compiled a list of a few tips you should take on the day of your hearing to guarantee the best possible results.

  1. Pay Attention to the Questionsdreamstime_xxl_41808245

Often people over prepare for hearings like this and therefore believe they already know what is being asked of them before the trustee has even reached the end of the sentence. Be polite and stay engaged as you are being addressed. Every answer you give will be recorded and it’s important to make a good impression throughout the hearing.

  2. Be Honest

Put plainly, you are under oath during your bankruptcy hearing. This is not the time to be cheeky or cute. Be straightforward with your answers and tell the whole truth when answering every question.

  3. Don’t Over-Explain

When some people are nervous they have the tendency to ramble. This will have no positive effect on your hearing as the trustee is there to get your answers to a set of very specific questions and anything else you have to say is simply a waste of everyone’s time.

Relax and remember it will all be over soon. If you follow the tips listed above this will be your one and only hearing, which is the goal, right?
